Access to NMR spectrometers

Open access is provided to NMR facilities through funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Users include academic researchers, contract reserch organizations, SMEs, large companies, and government groups wanting to characterize biological molecules or biofluids. Training, consultation, collaborative advice, technical support are available, as is access to wet-lab and office space.

NANUC Manager Pascal Mercier at the University of Alberta provides user training and system access to a Bruker NEO 800 equipped with 1.7 and 5 mm HCN and RT cryoprobes and Varian 600 and 500 MHz systems for solution state NMR collection of 1H,13C, 15N, and 19F resolved spectra of proteins, nuclear acids, lipids, glycans, metabolites, culture media, CSF, blood, serum, urine, beverage, tissue and infectious samples and access to TMIC and 500 MHz NMR in the Prion Centre. Mike Lumsden,NMR Coordinator at NMR-3, Dalhousie University provides access to a Bruker AV-III 700 MHz system with 5 mm and 1.7 mm TCI cryoprobes, SampleJET and a Bruker AV 500 MHz system with a SmartProbe tunable to all frequencies between N-14 and P-31 as well as F-19 on the X-coil and a triple resonance TXI probe with dedicated H-1, C-13 and N-15 channels, and a BACS 60™ sample changer. Strengths include F-19 methods for examination of membrane protein-ligand interactions and diffusion NMR studies.

NMR Lab at the University of Manitoba offering Varian/Agilent INOVA 600 spectrometer with 5 mm solution NMR capability including OpenVNMR software, and 1.6 mm, 3.2 mm, and 5 mm MAS probes with a low-gamma accessory and Bruker 300, 400 and 500 MHz NMR systems for solution state data from 1.7 mm, 5 mm and 10 mm samples as well as silicon-free experiments, and solid-state data from 1.3 mm, 2.5 mm, and 4 mm NMR samples as well as 7 mm laser-heated MAS. These systems can be booked on FACES after contacting NMR Manager David Davidson.

The UT Mississauga NMR Spectrometer Suite includes Varian 600 MHz narrow-bore with 4-channels and cryoprobe for liquids; Varian 600 MHz (VNMRS) narrow-bore 3 channels for liquids; Bruker 400 MHz narrow-bore with 2-channels and automatic sample changer for liquids; and Varian 500 MHz narrow-bore 3-channel for liquids and solids. The University of Toronto NMR Center in the Department of Biochemistry contains a large suite of NMR spectrometers operating at 1 GHz, 800 and 600 MHz for researching the conformation of biomolecules including protein structures dynamics and interactions. Managed by Ranjith Muhandiram.

Biomolecular NMR Facility at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Western University offers Varian INOVA 600 MHz Spectrometers with four channels plus deuterium decoupling accessory, 5-mm 1H{13C/15N} triple resonance XYZ-PFG probe and 8-mm 1H{13C/15N} triple resonance Z-PFG probe. Saskatchewan Structural Sciences Centre offering Bruker Avance III HD 600 with a SampleCase-24, Bruker Avance 500 with a BACS-60 changer, Bruker Avance III HD 500 with an Agilent HPLC for LC-NMR as well as HR-MAS and DOTY CP/MAS probes. National Ultrahighfield NMR Facility for Solids in Ottawa offers a Bruker Avance II 900 MHz NMR system with 20 probes for solid-state research, where the highest magnetic fields are beneficial for quadrupolar and low-gamma nuclei such as oxygen-17, magnesium-25, and chlorine-35 among others. University of Guelph NMR Centre has 800 MHz Bruker Avance III NMR with 4 RF channels; 600 MHz Bruker Avance III NMR with Cryoprobe; 600 MHz Bruker Avance III DNP NMR; 600 MHz Bruker Avance III NMR study solid and solution-state samples. Manager: Sameer Al-Abdul-Wahid

QANUC at McGill University offers a Bruker 800 with Avance III HD console and Ascend magnet (installed in 2017) and 500 MHz NMR, both for solution studies. The 800 is equipped with a 5mm TCI (HCN) cryoprobe for all common triple-resonance experiments. The 500 MHz Varian INOVA is equipped with an RT HCN probe. NMR Manager: Tara Sprules

The Structural Biology Platform in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at Univeristé de Montréal offers access to three NMR spectrometers: a Bruker NEO 700, a Bruker NEO 600 equipped with a cryoprobe and a Bruker NEO 500. All three spectrometers are configured for multi-dimentional biomolecular NMR experiments for structural studies of nucleic acids and proteins. Université de Montréal offers a 600 MHz Bruker Avance III HD, with QCIP cyroprobe (1H tuneable to 19F) with 1H, 13C and 31P cold preamps. Samplejet with refridgeration. Offer standard triple resonance applications for protein assignment and structure determination with or without non-uniform-sampling schemes. Relaxation experiments for determination of dynamics in proteins. Have capabilities to run and analyse NMR based fragment based screens using 1D and 2D techniques. NMR facility in the Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto offers wide range of capabilities for multinuclear, solids, etc as well as bioNMR including DD2 500 with XSens 13C-sensitive CryoProbe for acquiring C13 NMR spectra in sample-limited cases, DD2 700 with a H-F/C/N cryoprobe that can be tuned between F19 and H1, DD2 600 with HFX Probe, Avance III 400 with BBFO Probe, O500 with OneNMR Probe. University of Waterloo NMR Facility offers a Bruker 500 and 600 MHz systems for solid state NMR experiments. Access these systems throught the NMR Calendar. There is also a Bruker Avance 700 MHz with a variety of probes including a dual inverse cryoprobe for solution state NMR methods including quantum computing. Managed by Janet Venne

The University of Windsor NMR Facility includes a 500 MHz and three 300 MHz solution NMR Instruments with Broadband Probes. For Solid State NMR there is a dedicated 400 MHz Solid State instrument with a variety of probes for static and MAS data collection, in addition, the 500 MHz instrument can also be used for Solid State experiments.
